Headteacher: Mr Richard Boulton
What an amazing morning! Thank you to everyone who came along and took part. There were smiles all round.
Quotes from the day - 'I'm inspired to start running'. 'Such a well organised event.' 'It was so much fun.' 'I loved my finishers medal and certificate.’
The total distance covered by those that took part is staggering - over 424 miles. That's further than London to Edinburgh or over 16 marathons!
So far we have raised £1,000, a fantastic result, with sponsorship money still to come in. I'm sure you'll agree that it is a great event to add to your calendar - we hope to see you again next year!
Thank you to all the volunteers who made the Fun Run possible, and to Mr Boulton who was there to support another PTA event. We are very grateful to the first aiders and to 'Daisy First Aid' who came along. A very big thank you to Hannah Turner, David White and Kate Bell (and their families!) for organising this great new event.
The PTA are delighted to announce that we have funded a new canopy for the school’s picnic area.
The canopy was installed over the Easter holidays ready for the summer term. This is a great addition to the school’s outdoor space. The chosen design will allow children to enjoy their lunches in the shade on sunny days, but will provide the best possible cover in the rain. It will also provide an outside space large enough for a whole class, increasing the potential for outside learning.
As a result of the successful fundraising events so far this year, the PTA has been able to contribute more than £14,000 towards this exciting project, making this our main funding project of the year. In addition to the PTA funding, the school has also been successful in obtaining a Big Lottery grant of £10,000. All of this means that the school will be able to order a great canopy, together with an all-weather bonded mulch surface to go underneath.
On Saturday 10th October 300 parents, teachers, staff members, governors and friends of Wood End School gathered together in the Conservatory at Luton Hoo Walled Garden to celebrate the school’s 50th Anniversary. It was a magnificent evening with a delicious meal, a couple of drinks and a lot of dancing! As well as being a fantastic celebration, the event also raised £6,135 including £1,200 from the raffle.
There are lots of people to thank: Oyster Studios for their help designing and printing the brochure, menus and posters; Stage Door for donating the balloon table decorations; Morven and Martin Allen who provided the bubble tubes and the inflatable floor and ceiling decorations; Wendy Jones and Gail Morgan who held the Frocks and Rocks fundraising event to support the ball. Everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes: Lisa Morris and Argos; Top Hat Stage School; The Conservatory at the Luton Hoo Walled Garden; Luton Hoo Hotel ; Louise Seymour, Travel Counsellor; Aweswim Swim School; Three Blackbirds Pub in Flamstead; Stephen Astley-Jones, Photographer; Gary Edwards and Park Fit.
The biggest thanks have to go to Claire Moffat, Andrew Essex and Gordon Follows who organised the whole event. And finally thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, supported the event and made it such a memorable evening. Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 50 years to do this again!
